Taking Action is an amazing resource for our Response to Intervention Work in our district! Taking Action is easy to read, well-organized, and provides tools (reproducibles) to help teams work through everything from building a school leadership team to determining essential standards, to creating and analyzing flexible schedules for in-school intervention time. Each chapter offers sequenced Action Steps for teachers and schoolwide teams as well as sections to help the team understand the “Here’s Why” and “Here’s How”. One of my favorite parts of the book are the Helpful Tools and Coaching Tips sections in each chapter which provides connections to the Professional Learning Communities work and the book Learning by Doing, 3rd Edition (which I also love and use frequently). I have nothing but high praise for Taking Action and the beautiful sequence and easy to follow chapters and action steps that teachers and school teams can use! We are already seeing the benefits of the content of Taking Action as we continue to build systems of support for students! I have purchased this book both digitally and in standard book form, and it was well worth the investment as we work to move forward with intervention in our schools and district.
This handbook is a must read for educators working to ensure that all students are learning! It is a great companion to Simplifying Response to Intervention, and in this new resource, these authors have further clarified this important work, including the who, what and why needed to move the RtI framework to action. The practical tools and resources are usable for teachers and leaders, and have assisted my district in building systems of support for our students, leading to learning gain increases for our most at risk learners in 80% of our elementary schools.
